Sudoku (数独, sūdoku, listen (help·info)) (English pronunciation: /suːˈdoʊkuː/) is a logic-based, combinatorial number-placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 sub-grids that compose the grid (also called "boxes", "blocks", "regions", or "sub-squares") contains all of the digits from 1 to 9. The puzzle setter provides a partially completed grid. Completed puzzles are always a type of Latin square with an additional constraint on the contents of individual regions. Sudoku was popularized in 1986 by the Japanese puzzle company Nikoli, under the name Sudoku, meaning single number. It became an international hit in 2005. From Wikipedia under the

Q. If they don't fill enough squares, there will be multiple solutions; if too many, either there will be no solution at all (if a conflict arises) or they are making the problem easier than need be. Are there rules that describe the minimum number of filled squares to define a Sudoku (whether 3x3, 4x4 or bigger)? Asked by James P - Fri Mar 14 18:21:56 2008 - - 4 Answers - 0 Comments A. Well i would think that making a sudoku is just as hard as doing one. I would think they start with a solution, all the squares filled, and carefully work backwards finding all possible leads. There must be a systematic approach and a computer program that creates soduko's. I was going to try to program one when i was in programming, but found it way too big of a project. Found your question interesting enough, and maybe this site can help answer your question. My approach was obviously not the way they do it here. I didnt read it all. Q. I'd appreciate some on topic answers this time? It's also called hex sudoku. But they're generally called super challengers in the puzzle books and they also have 32 circles going through both center diagonals that cannot contain the same number in either diagonal. I would appreciate it if the program mentioned contains said making capabilities (I just can't get enough of super challenger sudoku!). If you don't know of any programs, at least list a site that has pre made 16 x 16 sudoku puzzles like in the puzzle magazines. I'd really appreciate a decent answer this time, and I'm sure I'm not the only one that likes them! Asked by Brian H - Sat Aug 25 22:18:51 2007 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments A.
