A Ouija board (generally pronounced /ˈwiːdʒi/, though correctly /ˈwiːdʒə/), also known as spirit board or talking board) is a flat board marked with letters, numbers, and other symbols, theoretically used to communicate with spirits. It uses a planchette (small heart-shaped piece of wood) or movable indicator to indicate the spirit's message by spelling it out on the board during a séance. The fingers of the séance participants are placed on the planchette, which then moves about the board to spell out messages. Ouija is a trademark for a talking board currently sold by Parker Brothers. While the word is not considered a genericized trademark, it has become a trademark that is often used generically to refer to any talking board. From Wikipedia under the

Ouija boards are toys that let you communicate with your subconscious mind - a well known psychology effect called the ideomotor effect ( ). 2. There's nothing evil or supernatural about them. 3. Superstitious folk are afraid of them because they feel they may attract ghosts, demons or spirits (none of these exist, of course). 4. In reality, they're as dangerous as chess boards. 5.
