Germany (pronounced /ˈdʒɜrməni/ ( listen)), officially the Federal Republic of Germany (German: Bundesrepublik Deutschland, pronounced [ˈbʊndəsʁepuˌbliːk ˈdɔʏtʃlant] ( listen)), is a country in Central Europe. It is bordered to the north by the North Sea, Denmark, and the Baltic Sea; to the east by Poland and the Czech Republic; to the south by Austria and Switzerland; and to the west by France, Luxembourg, Belgium, and the Netherlands. The territory of Germany covers 357,021 square kilometers (137,847 sq mi) and is influenced by a temperate seasonal climate. With 82 million inhabitants, it accounts for the largest population among the member states of the European Union and is home to the third-largest number of international migrants worldwide.

A region named Germania inhabited by several Germanic peoples has been known and documented before AD 100. Beginning in the 10th century, German territories formed a central part of the Holy Roman Empire that lasted until 1806. During the 16th century, northern Germany became the centre of the Protestant Reformation. As a modern nation-state, the country was first unified amidst the Franco-Prussian War in 1871. In 1949, after World War II, Germany was divided into two separate states—East Germany and West Germany—along the lines of Allied occupation. The two states were unified in 1990. West Germany was a founding member of the European Community (EC) in 1957, which became the European Union in 1993. It is part of the Schengen zone and adopted the European currency, the euro, in 1999.

Germany is a federal parliamentary republic of sixteen states (Länder). The capital and largest city is Berlin. Germany is a member of the United Nations, NATO, G8 and the OECD. It is a major economic power with the world's fourth largest economy by nominal GDP and the fifth largest in purchasing power parity. It is the largest exporter and second largest importer of goods. In absolute terms, Germany allocates the second biggest annual budget of development aid in the world, while its military expenditure ranked sixth. The country has developed a high standard of living and established a comprehensive system of social security. It holds a key position in European affairs and maintains a multitude of close partnerships on a global level. Germany is recognised as a scientific and technological leader in several fields.

Why does Germany make it a lot easier for whites to immigrate to Germany that non-whites?
Q. If you are non-white, it is almost impossible to immigrate to Germany no matter what country you are from while whites are allowed to immigrate to Germany with no harassment. Is it because of the Germans' old racist tendencies are starting to show again.

A. i have no idea, but i do notice that quite a lot of the bigger German cities are quite ethnically diverse. the difference between immigrants in germany as opposed to canada is that in germany they stay poor and marginalized and in canada they are or become educated and do well. this is the case most of the time and in general. Germany is an old country with old ideas and traditions... When people apply for jobs there you have to send them a picture of yourself plus state your age, place of birth and religion!!! isn't that archaic!!! i mean, they are way behind in Germany, that is a fact, not an opinion. it is reality. in canada we have a charter of rights and freedoms and human rights commissions and protection of rights and strict… [cont.]

A. They don't. Holocaust deniars are not punished for an opinion, but for hate speech, antisemitic incitement and slander and insult of the dead, the survivors, and their relatives. If you deny the Holocaust, you claim that all these people who suffered through it and all those who lost family in it were liars, and that there were some kind of Jewish conspiracy to make it up. And nobody gets arrested for personally believing the Holocaust didn't happen. Only few people were convicted for Holocaust denial and they were active neo-Nazis who actively promoted Nazi propaganda that contained Holocaust denial. I saw that in your other question you asked about Ernst Zuendel in particular. Well that is a very clear case. He was convicted for… [cont.]

What are main differences between retiring in Germany and retiring in the United States?
Q. I am currently working in the US. I have a good 401k plan. I am considering moving to Germany. They do not have anything like a 401k plan. I am just trying to find out which system is better.

A. In Germany, your contributions to the state pension plan (their alternative to the 401k plan) make up a certain deduction percentage of your salary. That percentage may well be the same as the one you currently pay in the US for the 401k plan. I would say the current German system has at least one advantage over the 401k plan: At the stage where, in the US, you may have run out of money late in life, the German state system would continue to pay you at the same rate. What do you do if you've got enough money to live to 90, and medical progress has made it possible for you to live to 110? We are talking far away, in a future which may be pretty amazingly long. There is one uncertainty though: Germany is one of the most aging countries… [cont.]
