A. d-1 = k+1 (1) d+1=2k (2) so: from [1]: d = k+2 (3) Substituting [3] into [2]: k+3 = 2k Therefore k = 3 Substituing that result into [3] gives d=5 Testing this 5-1 = 3+1 which is true, and 5+1 = 2x3 which is also true. Dinesh has 5 marbles, Kabir has 3 marbles. (Bows to audience applause.) .
