The practice is often influenced by ideas of religion, mysticism, occultism, science, and psychology. Theories of MagicDefinitions of Relevant TerminologyThe foremost perspectives on magic in anthropology are functionalist, symbolist and intellectualist. These three perspectives are used to describe how magic works in a society. The functionalist perspective, usually associated with Bronislaw Malinowski, maintains that all aspects of society are meaningful and interrelated. In the functionalist perspective, magic performs a latent function in the society. The symbolist perspective researches the subtle meaning in rituals and myths that define a society and deals with questions of theodicy- why do bad things happen to good people. Finally the intellectualist perspective, associated with Edward Burnett Tylor and Sir James Frazer, regard magic as logical, but based on a flawed understanding of the world; in other words as “bad science.” From Wikipedia under the

But I found that some books about magic which uses the spelling "magick" but seens not about Aleister Crowley and Thelema. I'm curious about this. So I'm want to know if the spelling "magick" still only related to Aleister Crowley or Thelema? Or has it became a common spelling which means all paranormal magic? Asked by arsho4n - Tue May 12 09:03:12 2009 - - 5 Answers - 0 Comments A. Aleister did popularise the use of the word "Magick" but it existed long before Aleister. Personally if someone talks about "Magick" I do tend to assume its Thelemic. But then again, a lot of people use the term these days to separate ritual magic from stage magic. Q. I, personally do not believe in the "paranormal." I believe that there are some things that have yet to be explained, but I don't think that there are conscious entities that are not bound by bodies. However, in order to be truly scientific about it, I have to at least run an experiment. Is there anything I can do in a sane and sober state that would demonstrate a paranormal force? Oh, and it can't be a stupid trick. Really, I don't want a magic trick, I want something that couldn't happen without paranormal interference. And if I didn't make it clear, it has to be something that I can do. A link to a U-tube video or some cheap photoshop job will not do. Prayer proves nothing. I would try for about an hour and listen to the recording a couple times sometimes a whisper is hard to hear but sometimes they speak quite loudly. A digital recorder works best but I have even used my cell phone and gotten them, so any recorder can work.
